This course has been created by the Swedish Defense University and is based on its established and well-researched leadership model. It is created for you who is a manager, leader, or have another role and want to create a work environment that brings out the best in both yourself and your colleagues. This leadership training is also a perfect fit for leaders and organisations in Agile/Lean, high-change and fast-paced complex environments that want to learn and grow further.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The goal of this training is to improve your leadership skills by learning about the Leadership Model from the Swedish Defense University and to increase your ability to lead and work with others.
You will have the chance to learn more about yourself and your leadership, reflect on your leadership skills, and get helpful tools to help you, your coworkers, and your organization grow further.
One of the trainers for this course is Carl Starendal, who is a certified leadership trainer by the Swedish Defense University, a recognized expert in Agile methodology as well one of the global SAFe Fellows. This means that during this course, you can receive additional support and advice on how to connect Developmental Leadership with leading Agile teams, tribes/trains, and organizations.

COURSE STRUCTURE
- The training is conducted in-house at a hotel over three days, with evenings also used. Ten weeks after the training, a full day is held for feedback and deeper reflection for all attendees.
- The course is held with between 9 and 20 participants.
- Before the training, the people you lead will assess your leadership skills. With the help of the course, you will create a plan for your future leadership. You can choose 6-10 people to do the assessment, which is done online.
COURSE DATES
This course takes place over four days split into two sessions:
- 2024-05-21 – 2024-05-23 – Core course days (full days with accommodation)
- 2024-09-14 Deep-dive day (one full day)
PREREQUISITES
Anyone involved in a leadership role, including managers and leaders at all levels, can participate in the training and there is no requirement that you have a formal personnel responsibility to participate.
The course does not require any “strangership,” meaning you can attend with others you work with in your own organization.

DEVELOPMENTAL LEADERSHIP & THE LEADERSHIP MODEL
The course Developmental Leadership (UL) is based on the Swedish Defense University’s research-based Leadership Model, which in turn is based on the worldwide and established research on “Transformational Leadership.”
UL model and training has in the research done by the Defence Academy shown a positive impact on an organization’s results and creates strong conditions for employees to take responsibility and create their own, internal motivation linked to work. It is also considered the leadership model that best fits the next generation of employees.
Developmental Leadership is characterized by the leader acting as a role model and addressing moral and ethical issues, and acting based on a visible and understandable value base.

Carl Starendal
Carl is an experienced leader, having decades of hands-on experience as an entrepreneur, manager & leader across a diverse range of industries. He is also a sought-after keynote speaker on leadership, management, and modern product development and a highly regarded mentor & advisor as well as one of the Transformational Leadership trainers (Utvecklande Ledarskap) certified by the Swedish Defence Academy.
Carl Starendal is also as one of the global SAFe Fellows an official contributor to the SAFe Framework and one of the key people behind the Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification course.
Anders Laestadius
Anders is a senior Lean-Agile and Leadership coach and trainer with over 20 years of experience in Agile software delivery. His extensive experience spans across med-tech, banking, and the public sector.
Anders has a background as a developer and architect. He has seen first-hand how Agile’s values and principles create the optimal environment for individuals and organizations to be effective and impactful, guided by a humanistic solid view of people. Over the past 18 years, Anders has focused on leading change by coaching organizations. He takes a systemic approach to change by coaching individuals, teams, and Leadership and influencing organizational culture, structure, and methods.
Anders is also a Developmental Leadership trainer certified by the Swedish Defence Academy, a certified Professional Coach (ICF ACC), certified in The Leadership Circle, and an Instructor in Mindfulness.
